Spring Seminar: Power, Profit, and Public Health

How Our Food and Drug Systems Are Failing Families

March 28, 2026 10:00 AM–12:15 PM at 2000 N. Standard St. Spokane, WA 99207

Please join the Great Northern University community as we host a special presentation from Dr. Jay Richards on Power, Profit, and Public Health: How Our Food and Drug Systems Are Failing Families. This seminar will include a keynote speech and a Q&A session. Light refreshments will be provided.

Why are Americans—both children and adults—sicker than ever, despite unprecedented access to food, medicine, and technology? In this timely seminar, philosopher Jay Richards addresses what has come to be known as the “biomedical security state” and uncovers how today’s food and drug systems are shaped by a powerful alliance between government agencies, major corporations, research institutions, nonprofits, and media. While much of this cooperation is legal, it often creates incentives that put profit and influence ahead of public health. This system is neither state socialism nor a properly functioning market—and its consequences affect families, churches, and communities every day.

Designed for everyday Christians, this seminar will help attendees better understand the cultural forces shaping American health and learn how to think clearly, biblically, and wisely about markets, power, and moral responsibility in our time.

Registration is required! $10/pp.
