Old Testament Survey
This is a survey of the entire Old Testament in its historical and cultural context. The course explores the general content of the Old Testament books (including the outstanding features and basic teachings), to understand the place of each book in God’s total progressive revelation. Students will gain understanding on allying practical Old Testament principles to contemporary Christian living.
Systematic Theology I: God, Creation, Providence, and Scripture
This course is a study of the nature and task of theology and the doctrines of the triune God, providence, Scripture, and Christology. Particular methodological attention is given to the role of Scripture and early creedal formulations in the theological task. Key concepts include the Creator/creature distinction and the need for analogical language in speaking of God.
Doctrine of the Atonement
This is an advanced theology seminar on Christ’s salvific work. Particular attention is given to the broad biblical witness to Christ’s work, to the atonement as a critical point of integration of all other theological topics (especially Trinity, Christology, Anthropology, and Eschatology), and to current debates over justification and penal substitution.
